Default Rules Of Poker

Maybe ther are some new people on this forum just trying to learn the game of poker. It looks easy on TV but Texas Holdem us much harder than you think. But here are some basic rules.
Objective
The objective, like other games of poker is to win. Some people play for free and some for real money but regardless the main strategy is to beat the ohter player.

Types of Poker
Poker comes in a many forms such as Texas Holdem (the most popular), Stud, and Omaha, however they stragies are similar.

Betting
Players will bet or contribute to a "POT" that holds all the chips or money. As the poker hand progress the players will put money or BET into the pot. The amount that a player can bet or put in a pot depends on the limit of the invidual game. Some games have limit and the bets must be structured. Other games such as "Pot Limit" or "No Limit" have very little restrictions and allows players to put all their chips in the pot. It is not advisable for new players to play No Limit Holdem for real money until the become more experieced becasuse it can be a very costly lesson while learning.

The Hand
All players are dealt cards, commonly known as a 'hand', some or all of these cards are dealt face down. Players will wager or bet based on the strength of the hand or cards when it is their turn to bet. After all the betting rounds are finished, the player with the best cards wins , or the final player still on the table after all the other have folded.

A player can Fold his hand, meaning he forfiets and does not have to continue to put money in the POT. This is one of the most important aspects a new player can master is when to FOLD. Most new players do not like to fold and hope for a longshot chance of winning. As you progress in your poker studies you will see or understand that any poker player can play good cards because its very easy. But folding and limiting your losses is the real key to being a succesful poker player.
